Rancho Palos Verdes is on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, neighboring other cities on “The Hill” of the Palos Verdes peninsula, including Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates. Rancho Palos Verdes is known for its dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and the Los Angeles basin, as well as for its highly-ranked schools, and extensive horse and hiking trails.


The city is known for its parks and greenspace, allowing residents and visitors many options to enjoy the outdoors. The most popular include the Point Vicente Interpretive Center with views of the nearby lighthouse and Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, boasting amazing tidepools.


There are regularly scheduled activities through the parks and recreation including classes for children and adults. The city also plans annual events like a 4th of July festival at city hall and Whale of a Day at Point Vicente Interpretive Center.


The main shopping area in Rancho Palos Verdes is located at Golden Cove. A Trader Joe’s, Starbucks, multiple restaurants, and other businesses have ocean views. Additional shopping and dining options are located on the Western Avenue corridor and in the adjacent cities.


Terranea Resort is located on the old Marineland site, where guests and locals enjoy beautiful grounds, views, water activities, accommodations, spa, and multiple restaurants.


The Palos Verdes Library District operates three libraries on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, with Miraleste Library in Rancho Palos Verdes.


The city is served by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD, in the Eastview area of the city). Children living in Eastview have the option of attending public school in either the PVPUSD or the LAUSD. PVPUSD consistently ranks top in the nation. The former Marymount California University campus was recently purchased by UCLA.
